First Steps

A telephone service for new parents that is intended to be a safety net to offer parents emotional support, parent education and referrals to community resources. First Steps uses trained volunteers to do telephone follow-up for a minimum of three months after delivery. The program works on the premise that families would benefit from an added support system and access to parenting information and family resources. This will help prevent negative parenting behaviors from forming, and will help create stronger and healthier coping mechanisms for new families.
Healthy Families

Healthy Families is a free, voluntary, home visitation program designed to provide support and education services to families during pregnancy and after the birth of their child. During frequent home visits, a warm and trusting relationship can develop between parents and our staff. Brochure
- Parents report significantly reduced stress, with an increased sense of competence, increased attachment to their child, and reduced feelings of depression and social isolation.
- 92% of children from participating families were immunized, as compared to a statewide rate of 77%
- 97% were linked with a medical provider.

Kinship Care Program

Grandparents who are caregivers of their grandchildren are eligible. The program provides case management, referrals to community resources and transitional support. There is a one-time transitional assistance to help cover the cost of additional beds and furniture and other necessary expenses related to transitioning the child into your home. A monthly stipend of $75 per child is also available for clothing, food and toiletries.
In-Home Services Program

This in-home visitation program provides family support and preservation and reunification to children and family members who have been referred by Child Protective Services. Program emphasis is to improve the well being of families, enhance family functioning, foster a sense of self-reliance, reduce risk factors and stabilize families.
- 85% of the families enrolled in the In-Home Services program received no new CPS reports during services.
- 83% of the families enrolled in the In-Home Services program received no new CPS reports w/in 6 months of closure.
- 90% of the families enrolled in the In-Home Services program did not have their children taken into CPS custody while in services.
- 94% of the families enrolled in the In-Home Services program did not have their children taken into CPS custody within 6 months of closure.
Artisans

Provides services to children who are enrolled members under the Regional Behavioral Health Authority and their families. The program goal is to maximize the potential for family reunification and avoid placement disruption for children newborn to ten years old. It is designed to enhance the emotional, behavioral and psychological status of the child, and improve parenting skills and family functioning for the biological and/or foster family. |
