Guy Talk is just one of Child & Family Resources' pregnancy prevention programs. Young men ages 14-17 in the program learn about healthy masculinity, healthy relationships, sexual and reproductive health, consent, decision making and planning for a positive future. Recently one of these young men shared their experience and how Guy Talk has impacted their lives. "What I like about Guy Talk is everyone can be who they want to be." Grandma Luisa has been enrolled in the Parent as Teachers (PAT) program for over a year while raising two of her grandchildren. She recently shared what is has meant to be a part of the program.  "I have learned how to sit down with the boys and read to them more, and understanding how reading is so important." She goes on to say reading has allowed the boys to express themselves, helps them to understand how pictures are crucial along with the words in their development.

Recently CFR’s Parents as Teachers program had the opportunity to work with a young lady named Sierra. Sierra was in the foster care system throughout her childhood and upon turning 18, she was expected to be independent. Unprepared and still so young, Sierra soon found herself running with the wrong crowd. In short order, Sierra found herself pregnant and in a bad situation.

Tucson Family Thrives with Support of Strengthening Families Program

Child & Family Resources’ (CFR) Strengthening Families program is an opportunity for families to build on their basic family communication skills, parenting and family management. Recently, CFR had the opportunity to work with the Browns* family. Through Strengthening Families weekly sessions, the family learned about love & limits, house rules, encouragement, good listening skills and effective communication. Amazingly, after several sessions sitting down separately and as a family, the family grew in these areas and learned how to communicate positively and effectively with one another.

Michelle Saint Hilarie, the Senior Statewide Director of the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) network, operated by Child & Family Resources, was selected this past July to join OpenIDEO’s new Early Childhood Innovation Network. Building Bright Futures Wins Losos Prize for Excellence

Members of Child and Family Resources Building Bright Futures program team were recently honored by the Parents as Teachers national center (the accrediting agency for Building Bright Futures) with a Losos Prize for Excellence. The Parents as Teachers national center recognizes two exemplary affiliates each year through the Losos Prize. One affiliate is awarded the Losos Prize for Excellence and another affiliate is awarded the Losos Prize for Innovation. These affiliates are honored at the Parents as Teachers national conference, and receive a $5,000 award to support activities that further their work.
