Mother comforting crying son

Leah, a new mother of two recently joined the Healthy Families program during her pregnancy with her second child. During her first pregnancy, Leah experienced and struggled with postpartum depression. But thankfully since Leah was enrolled in the Healthy Families program after having her second child she was able to receive the support she needed and connect with the right people.

Leah began therapy and was taught how to establish healthy goals and habits. Through learning these skills Leah began exercising, keeping to a healthy post-pregnancy diet, and was able to overcome her postpartum depression. Healthy Families staff working with Leah described her as very intentional and loving with her parenting. Leah was very attentive and picked up on the fact that her first born was very intelligent and had an advanced vocabulary. Her son later was diagnosed on the autism spectrum with Asperger syndrome. Leah has continued to work hard to be there for both her children and their needs, along with taking care of herself so she can be the best mom she can be. She credits the Healthy Families staff for helping her learn how to overcome her postpartum depression by prioritizing self-care, setting realistic goals and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Your support continues to enable moms like Leah to overcome challenges and be the best parent she can be so her children can learn, grow and thrive.
